All About Teri
Teri Hansen has received international recognition for her crossover abilities as a singing actor. Miss Hansen currently stars as “Madame Baurel” in the North American Tour of Christopher Wheeldon’s Tony Award winning production of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS and recently starred as the Baroness “Elsa Schraeder” in the North American Tour of Jack O’Brien’s critically acclaimed production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC (2015-2017). She also appeared as a guest star in Season Four of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK.
Miss Hansen made her Broadway debut in THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE and starred in London’s West End as “Magnolia” in Hal Prince’s Tony Award winning production of SHOW BOAT. She concertized with Marvin Hamlisch nationwide since 2002 and returned to the Boston Pops for two consecutive seasons under his baton. Miss Hansen starred in the Broadway National Tours of THE MUSIC MAN as “Marian Paroo”, “Guenevere” in CAMELOT, and as “Magnolia” in SHOW BOAT. She has sung leading roles with the Houston Grand Opera, Theatre in Pfalsbau, Glimmerglass Opera, Theatre des Westens, Orlando Opera, Salle Esse, Florida Grand Opera, and the Opera De Toulon. Favorite roles include “SUSANNAH” in the opera of the same name (under the direction of Carlisle Floyd), The “Widow” in THE MERRY WIDOW, “Musetta” in LA BOHÈME, the Heroines in LES CONTES D’HOFFMAN, and “Rose” in STREET SCENE.
Internationally recognized as an interpreter of Weill, Miss Hansen began her career as “Rose” in the award winning film version of Kurt Weill’s STREET SCENE (BRAVO! Channel; and for the Premiere production in Berlin at the Theatre Des Westens, directed by Francesca Zambello). She also starred in the world premiere of BROADWAY DREAMS in 2008 as the gala finale of the Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau, Germany, and was the first American to perform at the Kurt Weill Festival (Dessau) with Lys Symonette accompanying her in 1995. She returned again in 2001 to reprise her role of “Rose” for the world premiere of “Street Scenes” and had sung Weill concerts all over the world including three special 100 year anniversary celebration concerts of Weill at Abravenal Hall with the Utah Symphony Orchestra.
Miss Hansen has appeared with symphony orchestras and notable conductors around the world. She has performed under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, Marvin Hamlisch, Julius Rudel, Vjekoslav Sutej, Rob Fisher, John DeMain, Doug Fisher, Stewart Robertson, David Charles Abel, Michael Krajewski, Constantine Kitsopoulos, Richard Hayman, and Don Pippin, among many others. She has appeared with the National Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, National Symphony of Brazil, Anhaltisches Philharmonie, Russian Philharmonic, Atlanta Symphony, Austin Symphony, Boston Pops, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, Houston Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic, Omaha Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, Portland Symphony, Princeton Symphony, Rhode Island Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Utah Symphony, Virginia Symphony, to name a few, as well as International Performing Arts Centers and Cabaret venues around the globe. Miss Hansen appears regularly at the Lincoln Center where she has performed as a part of the prestigious “Meet the Artist” series since 2005 and in the world premiere of “Something Wonderful, the Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein”, hosted by Oscar Andy Hammerstein III, in 2015.
Miss Hansen is a Kennedy Center Irene Ryan Award nominee as a Leading Actor for her performance in Bertolt Brecht’s THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE, a graduate of Florida State University, and alumnae of the Houston Opera Studio. She received an honorary Ph.D. (DFA in Fine Arts) from Central Michigan University in 2014.
